Mark Hamill Debuts Chucky’s Creepy New Look In The ‘Child’s Play’ Reboot

Remember Chucky? He’s back, in reboot form.

The Child’s Play franchise is seven movies deep, most recently with 2017’s Cult of Chucky, but the new Child’s Play, the one starring Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Mark Hamill as the voice of the murderous doll, is returning to the beginning. The story follows a similar trajectory as the 1988 origin story, except this time, Chucky isn’t possessed by a serial killer; he’s an “out-of-control robot doll.” But don’t worry, the overalls, freckles, and fiery red hair (and, uh, knife) are still there, as Hamill revealed in the first full look at the new Chucky design.

“He’s more than a toy… He’s your best friend!” the Star Wars actor tweeted. “Your first full look at Chucky is here. Don’t miss @ChildsPlayMovie.” There’s at least one person who might miss the movie, though: Don Mancini, the long-time creator, writer, and occasional director of the series. “Obviously my feelings were hurt,” Mancini said about his lack of involvement in the new Child’s Play. “You know, I had just done two movies… forgive me if I sound defensive, [they] were both at 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Even though they didn’t get theatrical releases, they were well regarded. And I did create the character and nurture the franchise for three f*cking decades.” Jennifer Tilly agrees.

For everyone else, Child’s Play opens on June 21.
