UK tourism firms develop holiday-at-home schemes in response to government confusion

The lack of a coordinated lockdown by the home nations has prompted businesses to create their own initiatives

Close to the beaches of Cardigan Bay, a few miles south of Aberystwyth, is a holiday complex called Penrhos Park. It has 135 static caravans, six log cabins, a 15-bedroom hotel, swimming pool and tennis courts, all surrounded by a golf course and lots of great walking.

“A lot of accommodation in mid-Wales was fully booked for half-term,” says owner Rowland Rees-Evans, who is also a local Liberal Democrat councillor and chair of Mid Wales Tourism. “But then the firebreak lockdown came and that business was lost. Now we’re opening up again, but in mid-Wales our main market has always been people from the West Midlands and they are locked down for at least another month.”

Kid draws a hilarious family portrait, featuring his mother on her period

Periods are normal, but kids pointing them out in their sketches is something else. Australian woman Penny Rohleder shared a photo of her son's drawing on the Facebook page of blogger Constance Hall on Jul. 25, which well, says it all. SEE ALSO: James Corden tests out gymnastics class for his son and is instantly showed up by children "I don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that my 5 year old son knows this," Rohleder wrote.  "Julian drew a family portrait. I said 'What's that red bit on me?' And he replied, real casual, 'That's your period.'"  Well, at least he knows.
