After months of gridlock, the Senate passed an economic relief package. Payments could start reaching Americans as early as next week.

With millions of Americans set to lose expanded and extended unemployment benefits days after Christmas, the bill's passage was not in doubt.

Lawmakers in both chambers agreed that the measure's approval was shamefully overdue. It now goes to President Trump for his signature.
