The Great Cubby Clean-Up begins today! 4 weeks and 4 easy steps to a fresh start {issue 14}
Jan 8, 2021 No. 14 2021 is off to a dramatic start (we appreciated these thoughts on discussing the events of the week with kids). We're focused on creating calm and order at home—and with all these new toys from the holidays, it's time to get organized! Today is the start of The Great Cubby Clean-Up, four easy steps to a fresh start for your kids' stuff. You in?
Welcome to the Great Cubby Clean Up! It's the first week of 2021, and if you are anything like us, your house is feeling a little, ahem, overstuffed after the holiday influx of toys and trinkets. We've decided to face the problem head-on with a four-week clean-up plan devoted to toys and kid clutter.
Cubby called on some of our favorite organizing experts, who also happen to be moms and dads themselves, to get their best advice for how to tackle the mess. Because we're all busy, we've broken the daunting task of organizing your kids' stuff into bite-sized tasks that you can do in an hour or two each week. You don't have to do it all at once and it doesn't have to be perfect: Find pockets of time to make a dent and keep going. The goal is to make a noticeable and positive change in your home (not a Pinterest-perfect playroom).
By the end of the month, you'll have decluttered, organized, and set-up systems that will (hopefully) keep your family tidy all year long. Each week you can expect a few tips to get you started, and specific homework assignments to tackle before the next week. You in? cubby finds: fuzzy fuzzy ask maxwell As my son gets older I'd like to give him a birthday present that's also a keepsake and marks this special time that's moving so fast. Any good ideas? - Yasmin Dear Yasmin,
I remember when my daughter was smaller, I'd bump into other dads and they'd all say the same thing, "They grow up so quick, don't they? I just don't know where the time has gone." Now, I never really felt that, and maybe because I was self-employed and worked from home a lot, I saw her a lot, but I will admit that these past few years, after ten, DO seem to have moved quickly. The biggest difference is that she's no longer the sweet, adoring, curly haired girl who would climb into my lap to be read to every night. Now, she comes in, goes to her room, closes the door (sometimes locking it, which is another issue) and doesn't emerge til dinner, which can last ten minutes and then she's back to her room!
As they grow they separate and leave you slowly, and I know it's healthy, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt.
So where am I going with this? As I was reading your question I was looking around my house, thinking of things I'd given her that I was particularly proud of. I was thinking of toys and things like that, but then I saw one of the sweetest things we ever did together - for her birthday. It's a present of sorts and I think you might like it.
