George Shultz, who presided with a steady hand over the beginning of the end of the Cold War as Ronald Reagan's secretary of state, is dead at 100.

Mr. Shultz served in the highest levels of the government, including as Treasury secretary and secretary of state, and was later a fellow at the Hoover Institution.
