Google to give up on games A little over a year after Stadia's launch, Google is shutting down its game studios, blaming the high costs of making AAA titles. It will instead offer Stadia as a service through which other publishers can stream their games. Robinhood cannot escape bad reviews The investment app banned Redditors from r/WallStreetBets from buying more shares in GameStop. Now Google is trying to remove bad reviews of the app, but cannot keep up with the flood. Biodiversity at extreme risk A new report, commissioned by the UK Treasury, has found that economics fails to take into account how growth destroys the planet. The report recommends wholesale changes to the discipline in order to avoid continued devastation to earth's ecosystems.
What we're reading Reed watched in amazement as the messages proliferated. It wasn't how many threads there were, though that was overwhelming, but the way they seemed to grow like Hydras, sprouting in all directions. Recipients copied other people they thought might be interested in the discussion, who added more people, who added still others, across a huge range of countries and disciplines. The cascading emails were all responding to the same rather obscure news alert, meant for ear, nose and throat doctors based in Britain. It was titled: "Loss of smell as marker of Covid-19 infection."
