The Wing has had a rocky year, between the pandemic's impact on its business and the departure of cofounder and CEO Audrey Gelman, the charismatic face of the brand. Gelman’s exit was catalyzed by last summer's protests over racial injustice and a racial reckoning at the company, when former employees of color publicly shared their experiences and allegations of mistreatment and low pay.

But the once-thriving social club and coworking space is trying to stage a comeback. Last month, WeWork competitor IWG acquired a majority stake in The Wing. Now the company has installed new leadership: Sheila Lirio Marcelo, the founder and former CEO of Care.com, has joined The Wing as executive chairwoman of its board of directors. Lauren Kassan, The Wing’s cofounder and longtime COO, has also been formally named the new CEO.

While Marcelo seems confident about the future of the business, The Wing’s brand may not bounce back quite as easily. Read more here.
