Allow us to reintroduce ourselves!
Tuesday, July 20, 2021
Hi Closing the Gap readers! I'm Courtney Connley, a reporter for CNBC Make It and a writer for Closing the Gap, a series that focuses on women's advancement in the workplace through news, research and interviews with female leaders. If you've been subscribed to our newsletter for a while, you will notice that this one is a bit different. That's because we're switching things up, not only in format, but also in the timing that we connect with you each week. For now, you can expect to receive our Closing the Gap newsletter every Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET instead of Fridays at noon ET. However, that may change if we get feedback from you, our readers, about another day that works better.
As a writer for CNBC Make It's Closing the Gap section, I cover a range of topics pertaining to women in the workplace including the pay gap, the Covid pandemic's impact on women's employment, the intersecting challenges that race and gender create for women of color at work, and the female leaders who are breaking barriers in their industries today. Prior to my start at CNBC four years ago, I worked as a freelancer for Cosmopolitan magazine and ABC News, as well as an editor for Black Enterprise magazine. When I'm not working I like to travel, shop and try new restaurants with friends. My guilty obsession is the Real Housewives franchise and pretty much any show that deals with real estate. (A new season of Netflix's "Selling Sunset" can't come fast enough!)
Moving forward, this newsletter will no longer be just a feed of trending stories from Closing the Gap and around the web. Instead, I will provide you with a breakdown of the most important stories that pertain to women inside and outside the workplace, and keep you in the loop on any exciting events CNBC has as they relate to women at work as well as any original surveys or TV interviews we have on air. As a bonus, I will continue to include a few extra links to other Closing the Gap stories and trending articles on the web. The goal is to provide you with a more personalized, and hopefully informative, newsletter that you will look forward to reading each week.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to email me at courtney.connley@nbcuni.com. Or you can find me on Twitter @ClassicalyCourt.
Next week's newsletter is when we will really start things off with our new and improved format. But until then, check out some of our top Closing the Gap stories below, as well as other interesting reads for this week.
