The Taliban met the first protest against their rule with violence, and outside Kabul's airport, they struggled to control crowds. Follow our updates.

At one protest, in the northeastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, Taliban soldiers fired into the crowd and beat protesters and journalists. Protesters also took to the streets in the southeastern city of Khost.

Chaos erupted outside Kabul's international airport on Wednesday as thousands of people tried to make their way there.
