At least eight people were killed in the New York City area after the hurricane's remnants swamped the region with record rainfall.

The New York City area was under a state of emergency early Thursday after rainfall halted nearly all subway lines, destroyed homes in New Jersey and resulted in a tornado warning for the Bronx. Follow our updates.
