View this email online by Suzanne Nuyen First up Mark Hoffman/AP Here's what we're following today: A child has died from injuries sustained when an SUV plowed into the crowd at a holiday parade in Wisconsin, bringing the death toll up to six. The driver of the car has been charged with intentional homicide. No clear motive has been determined.  A federal jury found CVS, Walgreens and Walmart — three of America's biggest pharmacy chains — responsible for fueling the opioid crisis. The chains sold and dispensed large quantities of pain pills in Lake and Trumbull counties in Ohio, and face thousands of similar lawsuits nationwide.  Former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes took the stand to testify on her own behalf. She is charged with 11 counts of fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud. Prosecutors say she forged reports to make it seem like pharmaceutical companies endorsed Theranos devices. Brian Laundrie died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to his family's attorney. He was a person of interest and subject of a high-profile manhunt in the killing of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito. The House-select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection issued another round of subpoenas, this time for far-right extremist groups including the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys. Rep. Bennie Thompson said the committee believed the groups "have relevant information about how violence erupted at the Capitol."
