Has Right Wing Comedy Arrived?

Plus: fast comedy, commercials-turned-sitcoms, Bill Hader and more. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Welcome back to ComedyNerd, the weekly roundup of our thoughts on Canada, Bill Hader, friend of the site The Joker, and how good Please Don’t Destroy has been on SNL so far. Oh, and we’d like to remind everyone about Adele dropping that album the other day, since we’ve made it the officially unofficial soundtrack for Cracked.com.
Oh, and speaking of Cracked.com (crazy how that randomly came up in a Cracked newsletter, right?), we’ve launched a new game show: Pictofacts!
Our Tight Five this week is Jenny Arimoto, a Brooklyn based laugh machine and Pitbull enthusiast. We’ll let you figure out whether we mean the dog or Mr. Worldwide.

Jenny Arimoto is a comedian and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. You may have seen her videos on Tik Tok or Instagram. If you have, please be nice to her about it. She’s very sensitive. Don’t tell her I said that, okay? Here’s what Jenny’s been into lately:
  • Stath Lets FlatsMy second job at this point should be US marketing manager for Stath Lets Flats. This BBC scripted comedy series follows an incompetent letting agent in London. It’s so perfectly dumb, sweet, and funny. Definitely cringe-based humor, so it’s a true hit or miss based on your sensibilities, but please know that it beat out Fleabag season 2 for a BAFTA. You can watch it on HBOMax. Go! Go watch it now!
  • Feeling Asian Podcast: NYC-based comedians Youngmi Mayer and Brian Park started this podcast to create space for Asian Americans to talk about their feelings. As an Asian person, it was a huge saving grace during the past couple of years. Would highly recommend the podcast if you're Asian or want to know more about the Asian American experience. You can even...listen to my episode? No pressure or anything.
  • Pitbull Dance Routine: As an adult who dressed up as Pitbull for Halloween 2020, this dance performance speaks to my soul. Please enjoy this impeccable high kick routine by the John Glenn varsity team as a tribute to Mr. Worldwide. Dale!
  • Vox’s Explained: o know me is to know that I won’t shut up about Vox’s Explained series on Netflix. Each episode tackles a different topic, from K-Pop to billionaires to monogamy. It’s an easy way to ingest facts to show off at your next dinner party. (Ultimately, I want to present as “smart.”).
  • Boman Martinez-Reid: Boman creates perfect Tik Toks based on reality TV shows and other snippets of celebrity culture. This Love Island parody is one of my favorites, specifically the use of USB cords as their mics.
