Guess the Hot Houseplant of 2022
Happy Boxing Day, everyone! Does anyone know what exactly happens with the boxes on Boxing Day? I wish I did, because on this day after Christmas, I have them in spades, along with shredded wrapping paper, and discarded ribbon, and of course, a Christmas tree that's going to have to come down at some point.
I'm not nearly ready to say goodbye to my little tree yet, but when I am, I don't have to look any further than this piece that I wrote on the indelicate topic of what to do with a tree once the holidays are over. Even if it's a cut tree, there are ways to make it have life beyond the holidays, and I did come up with some suggestions that go beyond leaving it forlornly at the curb in January.
In cheerier greenery news, if you're wondering what the next fiddle leaf fig is going to be, or unsure what plant to welcome into your home next, Deanna Kizis has a story on the six houseplants you should definitely have in your collection. Plus, Frederick Tippett has the lowdown on one particular plant that we think will be on every tastefully curated shelf in 2022: peperomia. Read on for advice on this and other green things that we hope last longer than your New Year's resolutions (and your poor Christmas tree). —Nicole Clausing, digital producer and newsletter editor
