When you're ready for your next big night out, make this stylish party palace your first stop

While most of us are hibernating because a) January, b) Omicron, or c) a depleted bank balance, that doesn't mean we can't start planning our first proper 'out out' evening for 2022, whether it's next week, next month or next season. And if there's one place that knows how to give good party, it's The Maine in Mayfair. Since opening late last year, it's been the go-to for London's fashion scene, having hosted the British Fashion Awards after-party and Louis Vuitton's Cruise 2022 show, plus a roll-call of famous faces such as Alexa Chung, Clara Amfo, Pixie Geldof and Nick Grimshaw.

"Spread over multiple levels in a freshly renovated Georgian townhouse, each area has its own distinct vibe," says Stylist Loves editor Gemma Crisp. "The chic ground floor drawing room is ideal for a chilled catch-up over cocktails, while the vaulted brick ceiling and zinc bar of the lower ground tavern – formerly the servants' quarters – gives a moodier ambience. But if you want all-out glamour, head downstairs to the brasserie where you'll be dazzled by one of the biggest chandeliers I've ever set eyes on, and be entertained by impromptu performances by a live band and burlesque dancers. With a lengthy New England-inspired menu that's heavy on seafood – the raw bar is groaning with crab, lobster, oysters, scallops and tuna – and a perfectly mixed martini, there's no better place to forget about what's happening in the world for a few hours and focus on having fun with a capital F." 6 Medici Courtyard, 20 Hanover Square, W1S; themainemayfair.com

Colourful leather gloves are the easy winter accessory that have Prada's tick of approval

The end of 2021 may have been surprisingly balmy, but now that the weather has returned to regular programming, gloves are essential to save our numb fingers from frostbite. But forget mismatched mittens – this year, we're inspired by Prada's A/W 2021 show which featured models wearing chic leather gloves in a feast of Skittles shades. An effortless way to add a dose of colour to drab January outfits, they also have the distinct advantage of being harder to lose, thanks to their Crayola-bright visibility.

Fresh off the catwalk, Prada's logo-embossed purple pair (£880) – complete with a handy micro pouch for your face mask or house keys – are definitely an investment, but Zara's high street version (£39.99, also available in orange) are a little more friendly on January bank balances. For a cheery pop of red, look no further than Barney's Originals' leather gloves (£18) or Dents' quilted pair (£50) – both of which have touch screen compatibility for frostbite-free scrolling. Oliver Bonas' suede and leather gloves (£39.50) do nothing to dampen our love affair with all things green, but those who are more colour-averse can opt for John Lewis' blue fleece-lined pair (£20), which will keep digits toasty no matter how chilly it gets. Black gloves will just have to bide their time til next year…
