Hey, it’s 2022 and you’re back to reading ComedyNerd! Thanks for that - we’ve already failed some of our boozier New Year’s resolutions so it’s really a nice boost for us that you’re back.
Over the last week or so, we’ve thought long and hard about Connecticut, Adam McKay, and comics (books, not like, jokesters; although, it is about jokesters who write comics?). We’ve also inaugurated our ComedyNerd Cup!
Our first Tight Five of the year features the pearly whites of Darryl Lenox, here to promote his new comedy record and share his favorite funny things.
Happy New Year and thanks for reading!

In 2013, Darryl Lenox told Conan O’Brien’s national TV audience he really believed he’d commit suicide if the surgery to save what little vision he had left went wrong. Earlier this year, he woke up one morning to find he was completely blind. His newest album, following the hugely successful "Blind Ambition" album and special, is called "Super Bloom." The California wildfires followed by weeks of torrential downpour resulted in fields of beautiful poppies on the state’s hillsides. Lenox sees the parallel to his own life. Good can follow tragedy. "Super Bloom" from Stand Up! Records came out on December 17th on all streaming platforms. Here are five funny things Darryl has been enjoying lately:
  • Byron Bertram / Passport and ProzacByron Bertram is an only child who has experienced some anxiety and mental health issues and has found that his world travels bring him comfort and provide him with funny material for others who can relate to his struggles. Byron is an incredibly talented comedian, actor and voice-over specialist and I think it is one of my favourite albums I have heard in recent memory.
  • Ron Vaudry / Talking on Thin Ice: Ron Vaudry's album will appeal to people who enjoy great sarcastic wit and biting social observations. Ron is a veteran of over four decades and is one of the greatest joke writers in the game. A classic monologist.
  • Katie Ellen Humphries / Lady Finger: Katie Ellen Humphries is a Canadian world champion swimmer and brings that discipline to her writing. Her comedy is edgy, engaging and endearing. Katie is an award-winning writer and one of my personal favourite comedians. I think she can transcend all genders and ages.
  • Middle of Somewhere w/Chad Daniels and Cy Amundson: Chad & Cyrus are both acerbic and pointed but also very in-depth listeners and ask really profound questions that lead to some astounding dialogue. Besides being one of the best comics working today Chad is a great communicator and sharply insightful.
  • Seth Rogen / Yearbook Audiobook: Seth's audiobook chronicles his coming of age experience as a young stand-up comedian in Vancouver, Canada to a world famous movie star to nearly a threat to national security. This is a very cool story from an important time in his life as well as his early beginnings and the reason he is a superstar.
