Finland's leaders announced their support for applying to join NATO. The move was expected, and was prompted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"Finland must apply for NATO membership without delay," Sauli Niinisto, president of Finland, and Sanna Marin, the prime minister, announced in a statement on Thursday. The nation, one of Russia's neighbors, has a long history of military nonalignment, but public opinion has shifted in recent months.
