U.S. employers added 428,000 jobs in April and average hourly earnings rose 5.5 percent from a year ago, signs of strength in the labor market.

The U.S. economy has regained more than 90 percent of the 22 million jobs lost at the height of coronavirus-related lockdowns in the spring of 2020.
