3 essential podcasts that every woman needs to listen to

Shocked. Appalled. I-can't-believe-I-didn't-know-this. These are the collective reactions we had when Caroline Criado Perez released her 2019 non-fiction book Invisible Women, charting the gender gap in our everyday lives and, crucially, in the data. Now, Criado Perez is back with a new podcast Visible Women. A must-listen for everyone, the 12-part series delves into areas where women are forgotten in a world designed for men, from PPE to heart attacks, playgrounds and AI.  "A documentary for your ears, the podcast zooms in to the root of the issues with finite detail," says Stylist Loves writer Kiran Meeda. "Revelatory and downright fascinating, prepare for your jaw to drop."

Luckily, Criado Perez isn't alone when it comes to covering eye-opening female-focused issues. With the US Supreme Court potentially handing down its decision on Roe vs Wade this week, the new season of Slow Burn couldn't be more timely. Detailing the path to Roe, it takes you back to the early 70s with the forgotten story of Shirley Wheeler, the first woman ever to be convicted of manslaughter for having an abortion, and other key events from the time. Meanwhile, for a look at how the system is still failing to protect vulnerable women in the UK, add The Slow Newscast's 'Fallen Women' to your podcast list. Exploring the suspicious circumstances surrounding 27 women who died or suffered serious injuries by falling from buildings, the hour-long investigation centres on Bianca Thomas, a young mother who died in Birmingham in August 2018, and asks, what if she didn't fall – but was pushed? Prepare to be shocked and appalled all over again.

Swerve the upcoming sriracha shortage with the help of these small-batch British brands

Petrol, flour, cooking oil – just a few of the staples that we've recently seen shortages of. And it sounds like some brands of sriracha will soon be joining them. Popular brand Huy Fong Foods Inc. has had to suspend production due to a chilli scarcity in the US, prompting supply issues with its famed 'rooster sauce'. Made from chilli peppers, garlic, vinegar and sugar, the condiment is said to have been created in the Thai coastal town of Si Racha in 1949, with the California-based label producing its own take since the 80s. The green-capped bottle has become a mainstay in UK fridges – but rather than face a sriracha-free future, these artisan British producers are here to save the day.

For the classic flavour, reach for Suur's Organic Sriracha (£3.95) or Dr. Will's sugar-free blend (£3.50) – both of which use fermented chillis for an umami-rich kick. Eaten Alive also champions fermented veg, with its Smoked Sriracha (£3.99) promising an extra savoury depth, while the Sauce Shop uses red jalapeno and tomato paste in its Sriracha Chilli Sauce (£3.49) for a super-spicy yet sweet accompaniment. We can think of few better things for our morning eggs than Catalyst Coffee's punchy coffee-infused sauce (£7), but if you're in need of a superfood boost, Chilli No. 5's Sriracha Cha-Cha-Cha (£11.50) boasts organic spices, chillis and natural supplements including Peruvian maca, fenugreek, and Korean ginseng. And if you want to take the opportunity to make a bottle of your own, turn to chef and YouTuber Pailin Chongchitnant's homemade recipe. Move over Huy Fong…
