Heading to the park or beach? Make the most of the sunshine with these outdoor games

There are two types of people in the world: those who can sit for hours doing nothing, and those who get twitchy after five minutes of downtime. Fall into the latter camp? It's likely that a heatwave-induced trip to the coast or an evening spent in your local park isn't going to be complete without an activity or two. Relinquish your can of hard seltzer and relive your year six P.E. lessons with Professor Puzzle's team rounders game at your next picnic (£15), or opt for Sunny Life's bat and ball set (£25) with zodiac-inspired illustrations by Sydney-based artist Daimon Downey if you're heading to the beach with a competitive mate.

Jaques London's three-feet-tall Jenga (£39.99) will reconnect you with your inner child no matter where you are but if you're looking for a more grown-up garden game, NoBodinoz's quaint wooden croquet set (£82.49) is what to bring to your in-laws' garden barbecue. And if you're one to take everything but the kitchen sink on outings, Sarah Campbell's badminton racquets and shuttlecocks (£86) come complete with matching carry case for your journey – however, from previous experience, we suggest leaving it at home on breezy days. For the ultimate dual-purpose summer accessory – and something your more sloth-like friends will be happy to join – Sunny Life's pink micro-fibre towel (£34) doubles up as a chequers and backgammon board for a beach-ready tournament, complete with wooden playing pieces. Game on.

From Dua Lipa to Gucci, 'swimming pool blue' caps are this summer's must-have accessory

The nostalgic revival of 80s-style caps has just received a refreshing update in a particularly apt shade for the season: a spectrum of swimming pool blue. Look no further than Dua Lipa's latest outfit featuring a blue and white 'Star Child' slogan trucker hat and Doja Cat's off-duty cobalt blue cap from the Rihanna-approved label R13 – as well as the spring/summer 2022 collections where you'll find Jacquemus' La Casquette Mentalo leather cap (£150) and Gucci's contrast branded cap (£310). Suddenly, the ubiquitous black New York Yankees cap favoured by fashion influencers has been stylishly superseded.

Print fans can dive headfirst into the trend with Off White's tie-dye Hands Off baseball cap (£280), while Ganni brings its iconic checks to this canvas cap (£45). Preppy logo styles are coming in fresh too, via Sporty and Rich's Rizzoli baseball cap (£51.82), Ralph Lauren's cotton chino ball cap (£45) and New Balance's curved brim snapback (£10), but if it's a more retro look you're after, opt for Fiorucci's Icon Angels logo cap (£35). For those who prefer something bespoke, Suzy Dreams' pale blue personalised cap (£16) allows you to have a slogan of your choice embroidered on front – whether that's a Dua Lipa or Doja Cat lyric is up to you…
