Breaking: Michigan GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Arrested by FBI for Alleged Role in January 6th Riot

Ryan Kelly, a candidate in Michigan’s Republican gubernatorial primary, has been arrested by the FBI for his role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021.

Speaking with the Associated Press, FBI spokeswoman Mara Schneider said that Kelly was arrested at his home in Allendale Township in Western Michigan and was awaiting a court hearing. Kelly currently serves as the Planning Commissioner of the township. The FBI also executed a search of his home.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI, Kelly was accused of “disruptive conduct, injuring public property, and entering restrictive space without permission,” and has been charged with a misdemeanor for entering the grounds of the Capitol.

Kelly’s entry into the Capitol on January 6th and participation in the events has been widely known, with him featuring in photographs used by the Department of Justice in its prosecution of other defendants. Kelly’s participation and support for former President Donald Trump was a plank of his candidacy.
