Big Changes Could Be Coming to Healthcare

Barron's Retirement

By Elizabeth O'Brien | Sunday, November 24

It's true what they say, that health is wealth. I've heard so many stories of people who have saved diligently for retirement, only to have a devastating diagnosis derail their plans to travel or do other activities. It's heartbreaking. If possible, don't save all the fun for when you stop working. Take that big vacation now.

Another factor under your control is how you manage your healthcare costs. A health savings account is a great way to save for medical expenses, now or in retirement. You can no longer contribute to one when you're on Medicare, but you can use accumulated funds to pay for a wide range of qualifying expenses, including dental work and hearing aids.

Changes might be coming to healthcare in the new presidential administration. Read about them in today's edition, and focus on those factors within your control.
