If your family is like mine, they've been asking — let's say "gently reminding" and not "hounding" — for ideas of what to get the kids for the holidays. And if your family is really like mine, they've been doing this since Halloween, before the jack o'lanterns have even had a chance to rot. (Love you, Mom!) I get it. They want to get some ideas before the big Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals evaporate. So when I finally gave in, here's what I told my relatives to get my 9-year-old. |

- Squishmallows: My kid has been really into dragons recently, and she's always been a collector of plush. So when I saw that Walmart had a sale on a huge, 20-inch purple dragon Squishmallow, I told my sister to snap it up. It's normally $68, but Walmart has a Black Friday sale that brings the price down to $37.
- STEM toys: My mom generously offered to buy the Snap Circuits Flight Deck, a STEM kit that lets kids experiment with circuitry while building things designed to launch projectiles into the air.
- Switch games: And finally, she always asks for Switch games. We've been playing The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom together, and I really like how you can come up with different approaches to all the obstacles in the game. I think it gives me a little glimpse into how her mind works, and now when we need an icebreaker, we ask people what their most-used echo is.

Periods are normal, but kids pointing them out in their sketches is something else. Australian woman Penny Rohleder shared a photo of her son's drawing on the Facebook page of blogger Constance Hall on Jul. 25, which well, says it all. SEE ALSO: James Corden tests out gymnastics class for his son and is instantly showed up by children "I don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that my 5 year old son knows this," Rohleder wrote. "Julian drew a family portrait. I said 'What's that red bit on me?' And he replied, real casual, 'That's your period.'" Well, at least he knows. To give further context, Rohleder revealed she had pulmonary embolism in October 2016, and was put on blood thinning treatment which makes her periods "very, very bad," she explained to the Daily Mail . For centuries , humans have used fish oils, orally or topically, to treat a wide array of ailments, from aches and pains to rickets and gout. The popularity of this supplement has shifted over the years, as have its primary uses. But over the past couple of decades, the hype around fish oil has arguably reached an all-time high. According to National Institutes of Health statistics , in 2012, at least 18.8 million Americans used about $1.3 billion dollars worth of fish oil, making it the third most widely used supplement in the nation. (Sales reportedly flattened out at about that level around 2013.) Today, many use it because they believe it will broadly help their heart health , but others hold that fish oil can help with renal health, bone, and joint conditions, cognitive functions and mental wellness, and any number of other conditions. But is fish oil really as good for you as millions of Americans believe it is? Who should be taking it and when? We dove into the research and ...
