Re:collection printed magazine call for entryA collaboration with the Peter J. Cohen Collection
Re:collection invites photographers and image-makers to submit 1–5 works for consideration in Float Photo Magazine's upcoming printed magazine, created in collaboration with the Peter J. Cohen Collection. This open-call publication has no fixed theme; instead, its form will emerge through visual connections between contemporary submissions and images drawn from Cohen's vast archive of vernacular photography. Based in New York, Peter J. Cohen has amassed one of the largest private collections of anonymous photographs in the U.S., spanning the late 19th century through the 1980s and encompassing over 100,000 prints, Polaroids, cyanotypes, hand-tinted photographs, postcards, and complete albums—each an intimate fragment of everyday life. For this issue, selected contemporary works will be thoughtfully paired with images from the archive. Each spread will feature one "new" photograph and one archival counterpart, forming unexpected dialogues across time. By bringing together living artists and anonymous image-makers of the past, Re:collection seeks to give forgotten photographs new life and create a collaborative space where histories, aesthetics, and emotions intersect—celebrating both where photography began and where it continues to evolve. Theme: Open. Submit 1-5 photos of yours that you feel are a strong representation of who you are, your work or that you just love. There is no specific theme so feel free to submit any type of photo. Submission fee: $7 The submission fee for this call helps cover the cost of zine production. Your support ensures that this opportunity and collaboration is as meaningful and accessible as possible.
