Canadiens place Kenny Agostino on waivers, Karl Alzner sent to Laval
The Canadiens had the day off Sunday, but GM Marc Bergevin made a couple of roster moves.
Forward Kenny Agostino was placed on NHL waivers and defenceman Karl Alzner was assigned to the AHL’s Laval Rocket after clearing waivers.
Agostino played 36 games with the Canadiens since getting called up from the Rocket, posting 2-9-11 totals and a minus-1. He was made a healthy scratch for the fifth time in the last six games Saturday night when the Canadiens lost 4-3 in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre. The 26-year-old signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canadiens last summer as a free agent that pays him US$700,000 in the NHL and US$275,000 in the AHL.
Alzner is in the second season of a five-year, US$23.125-million contract with an annual salary-cap hit of $4.625 million. The 30-year-old is earning $6 million this season, but has only played in nine games with the Canadiens, with no goals and one assist. In 11 games with the Rocket, Alzner has 1-1-2 totals.
The Canadiens will practise at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard. Their next game is Thursday night in Nashville against the Predators (8 p.m., TSN2, RDS, TSN 690 Radio).
