Best new beauty | New Netflix period drama | Happy slogan tops | Gelato decor

Netflix's star-studded new period drama is a subtle triumph

The Dig, starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes and Lily James, is the sort of film that creeps up on you. Set just before the start of WW2, it retells the events that led to the unearthing of ancient royal burial grounds at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk, one of the most astonishing archaeological discoveries in British history.

"On the surface, The Dig is yet another gorgeous period drama: everything, from the costumes to the sun-soaked landscapes, has been chosen to delight the eye," says Stylist's digital editor-at-large Kayleigh Dray. "But this taut emotional drama has a deeper message, too. It captures what it's like to live on the cusp of a global crisis, something we know all too well – such as the temptation to make light of the headlines and crack jokes about impending doom. And it asks us to take stock of the life we're living, while challenging us to reconsider our thoughts on death and the afterlife. All in all, it's a beautifully melancholy watch that will stay with you long after the credits roll." The Dig is on Netflix now

Our new favourite WFH foundation

When it comes to lockdown make-up, it's all about skin. And by that we mean letting it glow as opposed to masking it with layer upon layer of unbreathable product. Thank goodness then for beauty innovators Shiseido, who have pulled it out the bag with their cult favourite Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation.

As well as having SPF 30 (because SPF isn't just for when it's sunny) and coming in 30 shades, the foundation uses clever light-adjusting technology, which naturally illuminates your skin for better reflection. That means that whether you're on your fifth Zoom call of the day or doing a daily lap of the park, your skin stays hydrated, dewy and radiant. We're sold.
