The federal eviction moratorium is set to expire at the end of this month, which doesn't leave much time to help an estimated 7 million tenants who are still behind on their rent. Nonprofit groups are hustling to distribute some $46 billion in emergency rental assistance, and to head off eviction cases before they end up in court.   The White House is stepping up antitrust enforcement and pursuing dozens of new rules to rein in giant companies and help consumers. They'll include curbs on noncompete clauses, the revival of net neutrality, a right-to-repair rule making it easier for farmers and smartphone users to fix their own equipment, and lowering the cost of hearing aids. Read more about the plan.   The Supreme Court seemed to avoid big, controversial rulings for most of its term. But an NPR analysis finds that Justices swerved further right this year, with nearly a fifth of cases decided along ideological lines in favor of the court's new conservative supermajority. Get the full analysis here.   Joe Raedle/Getty Images Just nine months before a Surfside, Fla., condo tower collapsed into rubble, an engineering firm found "severely deteriorated" concrete throughout the building, including evidence that its foundation might be compromised. The Champlain Towers South condo assocation board, which ordered the report, says it included no clear warning of danger. City officials say they never knew about the report at all. New research finds that the delta variant of the COVID-19 coronavirus — responsible for big new outbreaks worldwide — is extra-contagious because it multiplies faster in your body. Still, the Centers for Disease Control says, if you've already been vaccinated, you're good — there's no need for a booster shot yet. Is Remington's bizarre document dump in a Sandy Hook guns lawsuit compliance, or trolling? Sources at the gunmaker say they were simply fulfilling the plaintiffs' request, but attorneys representing 10 families of those killed in the 2012 elementary school shooting say it's a tactic to delay the trial and hide relevant information.
