Donor-Advised Funds

The Smithsonian welcomes contributions you may recommend from a donor-advised fund (DAF). You can easily direct your DAF award to the Smithsonian. Learn more »

A membership through a donor-advised fund does not include benefits due to IRS regulations.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)

You can transfer funds directly to the Smithsonian from your IRA as part of the required minimum distribution. Learn more and download a form to share with your plan administrator to get full tax credit. The employer identification number (EIN) for the Smithsonian is 53-0206027.

A membership through IRA giving does not include benefits due to IRS regulations.

Stock Gifts

A donation of appreciated stock is as simple as a conversation with your broker. We do ask that you notify our staff at friends@si.edu when making these gifts so we can send you instructions for the transfer.

Beyond Your Annual Contribution

Planned Gifts

You can create your own legacy at the Smithsonian by leaving a charitable gift in your estate plans.

Did you know Friends of the Smithsonian can be named as a beneficiary? Your annual gift to the Smithsonian will continue through your estate when you designate Friends of the Smithsonian.
