| | A five-bedroom in Park Slope. Photo-Illustration: Curbed; Photo: Craigslist | | This week, I was dreading the trudge through Manhattan inventory — maybe it's my own search that's hardening me against unaffordable new constructions and overpriced lofts — so I decided to give the outer-boroughs some more shine. What I found: a glut of affordable two- and three-bedroom rentals in Astoria, a pharmacy that's available for rent on Marcy Avenue, and a few special prewar listings in Ditmas (that are, again, affordable, contextually). | Want more on real estate, city life, and design? Photo: Royal Realty Corp | | $1,900, 1-bedroom: It's been a minute since I've seen a one-bedroom that isn't completely grim or secluded for under $2,000. Seems like it's in contract, but might not be too late! | $2,500, 1-bedroom: A one-bedroom duplex that feels like — and maybe just is — a real house! The renovation lacks charm (the varnished floors and progressed lighting aren't the best), but you have a parking spot! And trees out the window. Lean into the suburban side that lies dormant inside you and spark that barbecue! | $2,600, 2-bedroom: This lobby just fills me with joy. Would love to see how they treat other holidays. I bet Halloween is a hoot. | $2,800, 2-bedroom: This is twice the size of your average Bed-Stuy one-bedroom with the same amount of charm and prewar details. Plus, outdoor space. Totally lovely, IMO. | $3,400, 2-bedroom: Huge! Again, comparatively. With some nice moldings and big story windows. | $5,995, 2-bedroom: Waterfront living in your townhome, hello! For a new construction, this feels tasteful and vast. The picture windows give way to views of the East River, plus there's a garage and … speaking of barbecues — a designated barbecue-ing area! Only component missing to complete the picture: keys to your Honda Odyssey. | $1,500, 1-bedroom: Beautiful one-bedroom apartment with a price tag that made me do a double take. Until I saw that it was another one of those two-week rentals that are all the rage these days … | $2,999, 2-bedroom: Floor-through Bed-Stuy brownstone apartment — relatively updated. A bit overvarnished. You know the deal. | $2,800, 1-bedroom: Another floor-through brownstone apartment. This one is differentiated by the wide hardwood painted white (love!) and the current tenant's clutter (don't love). | $5,500, 2-bedroom: Not terribly priced for the neighborhood. It is most certainly fraying at the edges, but it's got good bones and a nice "patio," if we can call it that. | $3,450, pharmacy: Whoever is in charge of that reading series in forlorn and unexpected NYC retail spaces — like Peter Pan Donuts in Greenpoint, Sbarro at Penn Station, or that gas station in Meatpacking — should consider this pharmacy for their next pop-up. You're welcome, whoever you are. | | | The one-bedroom listed below. Photo: Craigslist | | $2,950, 1-bedroom: Back up to a hard-to-swallow price point, but at least this one has a lot of natural light! Besides that, it's a charming closet. | $2,700, 1-bedroom: Seems steep for Ditmas, but it's seemingly huge. The gray floors are a bummer, but otherwise, there's charm! And space to spread out. Not to mention the fact that it's an equal housing opportunity! | $3,299, 2-bedroom: Perfectly fine/nice. Dishwasher, washer-dryer, bay-ish windows in the bedroom, and closets! | $1,886, 2-bedroom: Pack up, we're moving out of that Astoria apartment and into this cheap gem in Flatbush. Rough around the edges, sure. But that price tag has the power to transform any flaw. | $4,500, 2-bedroom: There is only one picture, but that picture doesn't (seem to) lie. Beautiful floor-through of a brownstone, with crown moldings and a bay window. Small pets will be considered, according to the listing. | $12,500 5-bedroom: Listed this bad boy months ago — it's simply outrageous. Seems it went off and back on the market — treat yourself to a house tour for fun this weekend and report back. | $4,500, 2-bedroom: 1,500 square feet, views of Manhattan, two whole floors — welcome to Weehawken, baby! Thought it would only be fair to feature at least one listing in New Jersey … | $3,599, 2-bedroom: A more charming version of the above, with very similar square footage and nearly $1,000 off the asking price. | Did someone forward you this email?
