Meet TIME's Women of the Year | | | BY SAM JACOBS Editor in Chief, TIME |
|
| March 8 is International Women's Day, making this the perfect day to introduce yourself to the women that we've selected to be our 2025 TIME Women of the Year. This project started five years ago, when Kelly Conniff, working with a team of TIME staffers, set out to right a historical wrong: Up until 1999, TIME's Person of the Year was known as Man of the Year (for those keeping score, Jeff Bezos was TIME's last Man of the Year). | In 2020, we selected a woman of the year for every year that TIME has picked a Man of the Year. The following year, we re-launched Women of the Year as an annual program that honors leaders who are making the world a more equal place. In that tradition, we gathered this group together last month in Los Angeles for a summit and dinner to recognize the work they're doing. | Lucy Feldman, who led this year's project, described the effort this way, "When we sit down to think about the Women of the Year each winter, we ask ourselves the same question: What are the most significant issues facing women and girls around the world right now? Challenges are abundant, from gender-based violence and attacks on women's rights to the dangers of a volatile climate. But everywhere those threats can be found, so too can leaders pushing for change. The 13 women on this year's list are all, in their own way, working toward creating a better, more equitable world." | For an injection of inspiration, please do read about our 2025 Women of the Year. | Sam | READ THE STORY » | | | A Message from Inside Hotels TRAVEL SPOTLIGHT | | Oceana Santa Monica, LXR Hotels & Resorts | Santa Monica, CA | When it comes to refined West Coast cool, few places do it as well as Oceana Santa Monica.
