BREAKING NEWS: Markets mixed at open after China announces new tariffs

Asian and European shares slid on Wednesday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 dipping more than five per cent, as the latest set of U.S. tariffs including a massive 104 per cent levy on Chinese imports took effect. China announced countermeasures, saying it will raise its retaliatory tariff on the U.S. to 84 per cent, up from 34 per cent, effective April 10.
