| For the U.S. ARMY'S 250th, read the profound words spoken by General Douglas MacArthur at West Point in 1962. "Duty, Honor, Country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be…. They create in your heart the sense of wonder, the unfailing hope of what next, and the joy and inspiration of life…. Everything else in your professional career is but a corollary to this vital dedication." Those fine words, among countless others from the greats who made America, have been lost—and now they are found. FINDING OUR WORDS: Words That Made America is a collection of some of the most inspiring words spoken by American leaders since our founding, with every speech launched with a prefacing essay by Tracy Lee Simmons, longtime NR contributor and author of Climbing Parnassus, a popular case for classical education in America. In the essays, Simmons shows how each speech fits into the broad mosaic of the American story. Commerce with these words offers us one path back to citizenship, decency, and good sense. Finding Our Words is for individuals and for use in education at all levels, exclusively or in conjunction with other works, for the study of language arts, U.S. history, civics, statesmanship, and elocution. Periods are normal, but kids pointing them out in their sketches is something else. Australian woman Penny Rohleder shared a photo of her son's drawing on the Facebook page of blogger Constance Hall on Jul. 25, which well, says it all. SEE ALSO: James Corden tests out gymnastics class for his son and is instantly showed up by children "I don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that my 5 year old son knows this," Rohleder wrote. "Julian drew a family portrait. I said 'What's that red bit on me?' And he replied, real casual, 'That's your period.'" Well, at least he knows.
