What to see at TEFAF New York and beyond

New York is the centre of attention this week as TEFAF returns and art dealers bring their best pieces to the Park Avenue Armory from 9–13 May. While TEFAF in Maastricht skews towards Old Masters and antiques, its New York fair has a strong showing of more modern and contemporary work, as well as design and decorative art. To add to all the activity, Frieze is underway, museums are putting on their most appealing exhibitions, and the May auctions will be the first real test of art-market confidence since the uncertainty caused by US tariffs.

To guide you through the bustle: we present highlights from TEFAF New York, our art-market correspondent looks ahead to the sale season, and Apollo's editors pick the museum and commercial gallery shows not to miss. Plus: what's on at Frieze New York, and why early American modernists are making a comeback.
