A friend recently told me that he can't stand summer because it's just like one extended New Year's Eve—so much pressure to have trips and plans and parties and fun, fun, fun. But, if you haven't bought plane tickets yet, don't worry: There is still enough left of summer to squeeze in a cheeky trip to someplace far away. Far, far, FAR away—because even a summer routine, as sunny as it may be, is still a routine.
I'm thinking specifically of a view over the hills of Mallorca, from the balcony of Belmond's hotel there, La Residencia. Balmy outdoor dinners and someone to stargaze with? Sounds like a new routine worth the trip. For more ideas, read ELLE Decor's list of the dreamiest hotels on the Spanish island.
A wild idea that's beyond intriguing is booking a stay in a house by Frank Lloyd Wright. Who knew you could touch these masterpieces, let alone sleep in one? I am having a hard time picking my favorite from our list of available homes, but I think I would go for the 1950s Penfield House in Ohio. It has the original furnishings, which are in Wright's classic earthtones, as well as less characteristic oversized windows. Most importantly, unlike Wright's other residences, which are said to often feature 6 foot-2-inch doorways and ceilings, this one was built for a tall client. The result: airy, high-ceilinged rooms.
Also on my must-see list is the art hit of the summer: David Hockney 25 at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. I am also dying to revisit Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers' masterpiece, the Centre Pompidou, for one last look before it closes for a five-year renovation. And if you're in London, these are the 25 best museums and galleries to visit.
You can also just pretend to be in London and host yourself a high tea, as my friend JJ Martin did at New York hotel Fouquet's recently to celebrate a new tabletop collection from her brand, La Double J. Only this tea is iced, thank god, since Manhattan temps have been spiking into the nineties recently. Reservations are open.
Or, if you simply want to stay home scrolling and shopping, for example this Le Creuset sale, my friend told me what to say on Monday as the new status humblebrag: "I just had the most fabulous weekend doing NOTHING."
