When the Trump administration released its new topsy-turvy food pyramid last week, it clearly aimed to make waves. Senior reporter Marina Bolotnikova took on the confounding recommendations. Limit saturated fat but maybe cook with beef tallow? Plant-based diets are inadequate? Americans should be consuming more red meat than they already do?
Marina had already been researching and reporting in preparation for the updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans. And sure enough, what came out was a jumble of contradictions, common sense, and apparent errors. Marina's resulting story intelligently untangles it all.
In the process, she finds how Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other top administration officials continue to push policies that appear more based on vibes than on solid evidence.
