| Most Amazon sellers are obsessed with ACOS and Total Sales. While important, these are lagging indicators. If you want to actually grow your sales, you need to stop looking at the end result and start analyzing the journey.
You need to understand what we refer to as ICAP.
The ICAP Marketing Funnel is the framework we use to diagnose exactly where a brand is losing money. It stands for: -
Impressions -
Clicks -
Add-to-Carts -
Purchases. Think of your funnel like a tornado. The numbers will naturally decrease at each stage, but the rate of that decrease tells you exactly what is wrong with your listing.
Here is how to diagnose bottlenecks in your funnel:
High Conversion, Low Impressions: Your product is a winner, but no one can find it.
The Fix: You need visibility immediately. Aggressively increase ad spend and fix your backend SEO to widen the mouth of the funnel.
High Impressions, Low Clicks: Customers see you in the search results but choose your competitor. The Fix: Your "shop window" is weak. Test a new main image, adjust your pricing, or improve your review rating to boost CTR.
High Clicks, Low Purchases: People are interested enough to click, but your listing fails to close the deal.
The Fix: Your content is lacking. Revamp your A+ Content, bullet points, and description to convert that interest into action. Note About "New-to-Brand" (NTB) Nuance
Diagnosing the funnel is only half the battle; you also need to know who you are targeting.
There is a lot of buzz about NTB lately from several gurus out there, but it is important to understand if this is truly relevant to you.
If you sell a product with low repurchasability (like a mattress), you should stop wasting budget on retargeting past customers and focus entirely on "New-to-Brand" acquisition.
In a recent video, Noah Wickham dives deeper into this specific strategy, and you can click here to watch.
