Post-operative recovery is often thought of in purely medical terms: rest, wound care, physiotherapy, medication. Yet environment plays a quieter, equally influential role. The way a space is planned, lit and navigated can either support healing or subtly hinder it.
Hospitals are designed for acute intervention and rarely promote relaxation, as efficiency and access to equipment take precedence. Homes, however well-appointed, are seldom configured with recovery in mind. Stairs that were once effortless require negotiation, seating may be too low, and bathrooms often lack the subtle adjustments that allow for accessibility. More importantly, recovery demands more than comfort; it requires oversight. |
