Calgary Underground Film Festival Announces 2026 Program

50+ films & special events at 23rd genre film festival April 16-26

Today, the Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF), has dropped the full program of features, shorts, and special events that will be presented at Western Canada's largest genre film festival.

From big buzz features to under-the-radar gems – horror, comedies & docs

As always, the festival is stacked with the latest horror releases. The festival will open with the Canadian Premiere of HOKUM (directed by Damian McCarthy and starring Adam Scott), present the highly anticipated OBSESSION (Director Curry Barker) before its theatrical release, host the International Premiere of horror-thriller GOODY GOODY (Director Raymond Creamer) and screen the Canadian Premiere of sci-fi thriller IMPOSTERS (Director Caleb Phillips). These will play alongside new voices in horror, including the highly regarded CAMP from CUFF alum Avalon Fast, and the World Premiere of the local found footage horror EARTH TO COLBY (Director Rino Mioc).

Subversive comedies are well-represented, including the Canadian Premiere of John Wilson’s THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE and the Canadian Premiere of the Australian dark comedy THE FOX (Director Dario Russo). The festival will host the World Premiere of dark comedy LITTLE DOORS, the feature directorial debut from multi-CUFF alum Anthony Oberbeck. Hot off its SXSW World Premiere, CUFF’s Closing Film is the International Premiere of I LOVE BOOSTERS, the latest release from Boots Riley.

The festival will feature a robust lineup of documentaries, including NOFX - 40 YEARS OF FUCKIN’ UP from Calgary filmmaker James Buddy Day, the International Premiere of LONG LIVE THE STATE (Director Matthew Perniciaro) about the iconic improv troupe, and MOCKBUSTER, about Director Anthony Frith’s attempt at navigating SHARKNADO production house, The Asylum.

Guests in attendance

CUFF 2026 will welcome a record number of filmmakers and industry guests to Calgary, which MovieMaker recently ranked #4 on "The Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in 2026" list. Canadian filmmaking icons Bruce McDonald and George Mihalka will be in attendance for anniversary screenings of HARD CORE LOGO (as well as the rarely screened CLAIRE’S HAT: THE UNMAKING OF A FILM) and MY BLOODY VALENTINE. 115+ directors, actors, writers and industry professionals will also be in attendance.
