Dear Friend,
There are few things more American than a young child running a lemonade stand on a warm summer day.
But not long ago, some government regulators had a problem with that.
Across the country, kids were being shut down for not having the "proper" permits. They were fined or warned for failing to obtain costly business licenses or food handler certifications… just to sell a cup of lemonade.
So we stepped in.
After seeing countless examples of young entrepreneurs being told "no," we worked to make Utah the first state in the nation to protect them and to stop local governments from requiring permission slips for minors.
Commonly known as "Lemonade Stand Laws," these protections ensure kids can sell lemonade, baked goods, and other homemade products directly to their neighbors, without fear of government interference.
And the idea caught on.
We helped pass similar laws in Arizona in 2024 and Missouri in 2025. Right now, we're working to bring lemonade stand freedom to Kansas and Oklahoma.
At Libertas, we love seeing the entrepreneurial spirit come alive in children, and that's exactly what Kids Markets are doing.
Across the country, Kids Markets are one-day community events where children launch and run their own small businesses, selling real products to real customers. These markets give kids hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, building confidence, creativity, and real-world skills as they take full ownership of their business.
I encourage you to check out a Kids Market, find one near you for your children or grandchildren, and support the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Because the first lesson in entrepreneurship shouldn't be navigating bureaucracy.
It should be learning initiative, creativity, and hard work.
In liberty,
