Bulking. Beefing up. Putting on mass. Going beast mode. Whatever you call it, there's a lofty protein goal attached. And where can't you find protein these days? It's in soda, candy, Starbucks coffee. That feels wrong, but protein is scientifically proven to be good for your heart and bones as well as help you feel full. Are the TikTok docs and dietitians who sing its praises onto something? Now, there's a trendy way to sneak some grams in on your cheat day, served somewhere unexpected: the cocktail bar. The next drink you order could be protein-boosted, and you might not even know it. |

| In 1989, my twin brother and I started first grade at Allen-Stevenson, an all-boys school on Manhattan's Upper East Side. We were placed in separate classrooms, so none of our classmates knew we were twins. At lunch, a boy in my class approached me with a wide-eyed expression.
"I don't want to freak you out," he said, "but there's a kid in the other class who looks just like you."
The boy's name was Will Sargent. Earlier that day, I had noticed he was the only one sitting backward in his chair. He wore white Converse Cons high-tops and a sailor's-knot bracelet. I don't remember exactly when we became best friends. But I do remember that in second grade, Will would call me after school, and we'd watch the police procedural drama 21 Jump Street while on the phone with each other; he on the Upper East Side, me on the Upper West.
Will was the most popular kid in our class by a country mile. In fifth grade, when elected to the student council, he and the other class representatives had to choose inspirational quotes to appear next to their photos in the yearbook. The other boys picked sayings such as "Patience is a virtue" and "All for one, one for all." Will chose a line from the 1993 movie The Sandlot: "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die."
Decades later, that would turn out to be true. Just probably not in the way Will expected. |

You know the score. It's a classic three-day, two-night work trip, punctuated by meetings, working lunches, and dinners out. There will be handshakes, huddles, pitches, early starts, and late nights. You might get to visit the gym, maybe see a friend from college, or spend a free afternoon exploring a new city—but don't bank on it. Packing a carry-on to cover all of the above is hard. I've spent the past decade trying to perfect it (with occasional success), and the one thing I've learned is that, in this instance, personal style needs to be reframed through the prism of efficiency. Sounds dry, but hear me out. |

Periods are normal, but kids pointing them out in their sketches is something else. Australian woman Penny Rohleder shared a photo of her son's drawing on the Facebook page of blogger Constance Hall on Jul. 25, which well, says it all. "Julian drew a family portrait. I said 'What's that red bit on me?' And he replied, real casual, 'That's your period.'" Well, at least he knows. To give further context, Rohleder revealed she had pulmonary embolism in October 2016, and was put on blood thinning treatment which makes her periods "very, very bad," she explained to the Daily Mail .
